Seisco RA-32 Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

Seisco RA-32 Electric Tankless Water HeaterIf you are planning to purchase a Seisco Tankless Water Heater, you might just prefer just to flush your cash down the toilet. We have had one for just over a year and have had trouble 3 times. When you need parts, plan on paying for them and paying for shipping. There is not much of a warranty and customer service is very kind but ineffective. We love the idea of tankless but made a very poor decision going with this company. Please do not make the mistake we did unless you like a cold shower.

EZ Outdoor Tankless Water Heater - 7.4 GPM - Propane Gas (LPG) - Stainless Steel - Ventless - Large Capacity - FREE SHIPPING Review

EZ Outdoor Tankless Water Heater - 7.4 GPM - Propane Gas - Stainless Steel - Ventless - Large Capacity - FREE SHIPPINGAnother Chinese piece of junk at a grossly misrepresented output.
Five major problems with this:
1-The unit is a 109.000 BTU which at 81% efficiency (hopefully!), will give you about 92.000 usable BTU . That in exchange is giving you about 3.2 gallons at 70F.
Totally overstated and misleading. It is actually rated by the Chinese manufacturer at 26 liters at 25C temp increase. That is a long cries from 7.4 gallons/minute stated on the title. No wander they do not list the BTU at all and you have to call to find out.
2-It uses a 2 stage gas valve which in no way shape or form will be able to maintain a constant temperature under different volumes of water. Stage 1 is 3/4 open and stage 2 is a 100% gas valve open. 7 years ago inferior technology copy from Takagy.
3. Weight: The weight of a unit is given by the weight of the heater exchanger. For a unit of that size the weight of the unit should be around 46Lb. Heater exchanger is "paper thin" No wander it comes with only 1 year warranty.
4. "Stainless steel" Don't get your hopes high: Only the front cover is stainless steel, (which grade?... only the Chinese factory knows!)The rest... same ordinary steel.
5. "Vent less" they do even know what "vent less" is ?

PS:Note to reseller:The big hole on the front of the unit is for unit to vent out and the holes on the bottom is for the unit to vent in.

Rheem Tankless water heater for 1-2 bathroom homes, outdoor, LP - Model RTG53XP Residential Gas TankI have a tiny house and had to replace the galv piping with copper. I decided to switch from a tank water heater to tankless and Rheem was recommended by a plumber friend. Not only does this use far less propane, it takes up much less of my precious space and saves water with the quick flow of hot to my shower. I love it. I also will get some tax credit for it due to it's efficiency.

Bosch AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #250SX-NG Review

Bosch AquaStar Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #250SX-NGI have used the Internet extensively for information on tankless water heaters and this 250SX model in particular, so I wanted to fully detail my experiences accurately for others. In short, these things aren't for everyone, it depends on your usage and tolerance, your handyman ability, and the quality of plumbing in your home particularly water pressure. That being said, I am personally very happy with my 250SX set up, but I had to make some adjustments.

Usage: I only use hot water at the kitchen faucet, dishwasher, and clothes washer about once a week. I take a 10 or 15 minute shower every morning. About once a month I fill my 75 gallon jacuzzi. Rarely do I use hot water in the bathroom sinks for other uses, I often wash my hands in cold water. Other than the jacuzzi water and shower, I use very little hot water. Having a hot water tank of 75 gallons, or even 40 gallons, just does not make sense. The 250SX needs 0.8 gallon flow to activate the heating element. I take fairly hot showers and I keep the 250SX at 124 degrees. Because an extra 0.8 gallon flows through the pipes before the 250SX activates, some complain that it takes too long to get hot water, but I think it is no big deal. A bigger problem for some: when you turn off the hot water then turn it on again, your hot water that was in the pipe comes first, then the 0.8 cold water, then it gradually gets hot again. That is a little annoying. Imagine your wife turning the hot water on and off to wash dishes. A hot water tank would just keep the hot water flowing ready for on/off use, but not a tankless unit. It wasn't too big of a deal, but in the end I decided to solve the problem by adding a 6 gallon hot water tank (Ariston GL6+) in series after the 250SX. The 250SX has 3/4 inch NPT water threads, to keep the pressure constant make sure you get a small holding tank that also has 3/4 inch NPT water threads. The hot water always flows through the hot water tank last and the outward source recieves hot water from the small holding tank first. Also, the 0.8 gallon of cold water flows into the small tank first where it is mixed with 6 gallons tanked hot water. Set the small tank at about 4 degrees higher than the 250SX and you won't even know the difference in temperature; problem solved. One guy told me that his wife insists that the hot water must be 140 degrees in the dishwasher, but she also likes luke-warm showers. The problem here is that the 250SX does not get the 0.8 gallon of flow when she is in the shower. Add the fact that she messes with the shower's water controls and the unit goes from on (hot) to off (cold) while she is in the shower. Apparently, that really pisses her off. The small holding tank helps with this too, but there are several ways to solve this problem: 1) get a new wife, 2) use Bosch's remote temperature control (about $120 extra) at the shower to turn down the temperature, 3) turn on a bathroom faucet while she showers (wasting a lot of hot water) 4) my new dishwasher (this recently went out too) has an option to superheat the water it uses (it must have a separate water heater). Some people complain that the unit causes less hot water pressure, but that is not my experience at all. It helps to have good water pressure to begin with (mine is 70 psi) but maybe the hard piping to keep 3/4 of water flowing without bottlenecks helps too. Some people complain that the unit makes a high pitched noise, but that is not my experience either. I will say this: for a short time I had it connected to the previous tanks 1/2 inch gas line. It did make this noise a little when two hot water appliances worked at the same time; probably has to do with needing more gas than available in the 1/2 inch line. In that case, that problem is solved by hard piping a 3/4 inch gas pipe to the 250SX. It seems to me all these problems are related to particular usage or to improper installation; READ THE INSTALLATION MANUAL.

Installation: The venting exhaust must be on its own line, NOT combined with say your furnace exhaust. Also, be sure you incline the exhaut pipe upward if venting horizontally as the manufacturer requires. Incidentally, the model's installation instructions are available on the Internet, READ THE INSTALLATION MANUAL. The 250SX drinks in 175,000 BTU when it is working hard, that might mean you will need to upgrade your gas line. In my case, I was replacing my furnace as well as the water heater. The guy that installed the furnace, used the previous 3/4 inch gas line for the 250 SX, then ran another gas line for the new furnace. Since it was part of the bid, I have no way of knowing the cost, but I would guess the cost at $75 of the furnace bid. To insure that the 250SX gets sufficient gas, the installation manual strongly suggests that the gas line be hard piped to the unit which is what the furnace guy did for me. Another guy told me to hard pipe the water lines to unsure that there are no bottle necks in the water pressure. Apparently, a3/4 inch flex line is actually 5/8 inch in the middle. I sweated the 3/4 inch copper pipe from the cold water source to the 250SX, then to the 6 gallon holding tank, then to the hot water line; all water runs through 3/4 inch copper pipe with unions for quick uninstall if either the 250SX or the holding tank needs to be replaced someday. You will need an outlet for the 250SX pilotless ignition, but I think it takes very little power. If you install the Ariston tank, it requires a 20 amp circuit hardwired to the unit. So, you've got to know a little about electrical, plumbing for copper pipe, and basic handyman skills for everything else. I found it to be a fun little installation project. You can also contract out the installation but it is rather expensive.

Costs: I bought mine at a local hardware store for $899 + tax. The expenses don't stop there, if properly installed this model MUST HAVE a special sealed 3 inch stainless steel pipe for hot gas (carbon monoxide) exhaust, plus a wall thimble and a termination hood. I needed 13.5 feet of exhaust venting (AL29 type) which I bought on the Internet (Cinnabar) for $292. The optional small holding tank (Ariston GL6+) cost me $174 (from Ace hardware on the Internet, have them send it to one of their stores). There is another $150 to $200 in other materials, including a 20 amp circuit plus 12 gauge wire for the small holding tank which needs to be hard wired, copper pipe, etc. The 250SX itself needs an outlet for pilotless ignition. You are supposed to have both on separate curcuits, but I felt this was not necessary, so I put them on the same circuit, outlet and hardwire to the small tank. In total, everything cost me about $1650 with the small tank and installing everything myself. Figure more if you need to increase your gas line as these things suck 175,000 BTUs when loaded, plus $800 to $1500 more if you have someone else install it for you. I got a quote for about $800 for the install not including the small holding tank or the extra for the increased gas line.

Analysis: I figure a quality large water heater, big enough for my Jacuzzi, would be about $800 installed. I will get $300 back in a Federal Tax credit, so the tankless unit setup is $550 in extra expenses that have to be made up in savings ($1650 - $800 -$300 = $550). I figure I save $8 a month in energy costs when I subtract the $2.50 a month to operate the small 6 gallon water tank. It depends on how much hot water you use, others claim they save $20 a month. That means it will take me about 6 years to break even. The warranty is 12 years on the 250SX and 6 years on the GL+6. Keep in mind that tankless units are expected to give twice the service of a water tank. That make sense since most water tanks rust out trying to hold all that water. I have used the 250SX for 2 months now. I'm tickled pink by the unit, but NOT because of my marginal energy savings. With the small tank in series, it acts a lot like the tank I replaced, except the hot water is endless, great for the Jacuzzi, and a lot of room is freed up in my garage. Bottom line: If you 1) have good water pressure (a must), 2) are able to install it yourself, 3) have other reasons besides energy savings to install, then I highly recommend it. If you are lacking on these 3 points then do yourself a favor and just replace your old hot water tank with another.

Bosch AquaStar Indoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #125FX NG Review

Bosch AquaStar Indoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater #125FX NGI live in a city apt., and must provide my own hot water. I replaced a 30 gal. tank with the HX (hydro pilot) model. It took some getting use to, it would shut down if I added too much cold to cool off the hot water. 2 1/2 yrs after installation, it doesn't always want to light. I have to run the hot water for 3 - 5 seconds, turn it off and turn it on again. Most always this works, but its an agravation. Bosch won't help, as I admitted I installed it in my bathroom, which voids the warranty, and Bosch won't give any technical advice for this other problem as a result. I installed a large vent in the lower half of the bathroom door, and have had no air intake problems. I am on the top floor and was able to vent out to the roof rather easily. I also have a CM detector/alarm in the bathroom near the unit which registers neglible amounts of CM.

"The place where you install the heater must have enough ventilation. The National Fire Codes do not allow gas fired water heater installation in bathrooms, bedrooms or any occupied rooms normally kept closed." from the installation manual, obtainable on the web. This is fine, and ample warning if you get a copy of the installation manual before you purchase the unit. The claim that hot water is instantaneous is not true. It actually takes longer than a heater with a tank, which has hot water standing by. The tankless takes cold water, and starts heating it a bit after the water starts to flow, but does come up to temperature pretty rapidly. In Europe (and foreign films) you see these right above the sink in the kitchen for a good reason. My kitchen is some 45 feet away from the bathroom, so it takes a little bit to get hot water, compounded by the fact that I have to turn the water on and off to fire up the unit.

"WaterValve (Part # 8707002649): The water valve on this heater should be serviced periodically. Lubricate component 36 on page 16 with a small amount of silicon, faucet or lithium grease every two years to keep its o rings fresh and pushrod sliding smoothly. Every 3-5 years replace component 36 on page 16."
Installation manual.

Unless you are technically proficient (able to install the unit your self) you will have to hire a plumber to do this. This makes the unit more expensive to maintain than a tank unit, perhaps eating up whatever savings you might realize not keeping a tank hot 24/7.

So, unless you have extra indoor space to stick this thing, are prepared for the maintenence routine, hopefully it will last twice as long as a tank model (20 yrs vs. 10 years) and will save on the purchase/installation after the first 10 years.

Savings: It's very difficult to compare energy usage between the tank/tankless models. I couldn't find any useful charts, etc to make a reasoned comparison. Perhaps if I was an engineer of some sort. I did have to replace my 12 yr old tank model, and liked the idea of not having to turn it down when I went away, etc. Also, the longevity of the unit is attractive, as well as the hydro (125HX) pilot is cool.

Bosch GWH-425-HN-N Tankless Water Heater, Indoor Use Review

Bosch GWH-425-HN-N Tankless Water Heater, Indoor UseWe replaced an electric 30 gallon hot water tank for this natural gas unit. The obvious difference, a mild reduction in hot water pressure. As for hot water temperatures, very comparable.I would say its not scalding hot out of the tap, but steamy. Not bad, given its winter in New England.Electric units are out of the question, the power requirements needed to raise the water temperature put them beyond the capacity of most homes in this climate. Our consumption is moderate, just two in the household. Can two use the hot water at the same time? Yes, the hot water pressure will again be reduced, but not uncomfortable for the one in the shower. One important note, the household uses half-inch plumbing, while the city water feed comes in on a three-quarters-inch pipe; larger pipe capacity could be a factor to consider.Electrical savings are modest, though we only have one month to compare.

NORITZ Outdoor Nat Gas Tankless Water Heater 9.3G/PM Review

NORITZ Outdoor Nat Gas Tankless Water Heater 9.3G/PMAfter comparing all the leading brands, we selected the Noritz due to the price / performance / reliabilitymade it a good value. We had the unit professionally installed, which took one day. The total cost to us was $2,900 all in. We expect $1,000 back from the federal tax rebate.
The performance of the unit is quite good. Our old $50 gal unit was in the attic but this unit was installed outside near our AC units. I was a little concerned about how long it would take to move the hot water around the house. It is really not a big issue. It takes about a minute to get to the master bath, which is the furtherest point from the unit.
The water is hot and endless... nothing to do but enjoy!

Bosch AquaStar Indoor Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater with Vent Hood #125FX LP Review

Bosch AquaStar Indoor Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater with Vent Hood #125FX LPI like this water heater quite a bit. This is a huge money saver if you only use hot water a few times a day. If you have people taking showers all day long, it is probably less so.

I researched these heaters on-line and found some people were pretty negative about them while other people were positive. I figured I would address the biggest complaints.

Complaint: It takes a while to get hot water.
Response: This is probably the biggest downside. It does take a bit longer to get hot water... this is less noticeable the longer it took to get hot water in the first place, however. If your point of use is far from your old tank, the extra delay is hardly noticeable.

Complaint: If you shut off the hot water and start it again you will get a burst of cold water.
Response: I've never observed this phenomenon. The hot water heater will shut off, and about bit of water must pass through it before it turns on again, but the thing is, the heat exchanger is still hot. So you are not going to get a burst of cold water in between uses of hot water, unless you've had the water off for a long time... in which case the water in your pipes is going to be cold as well.

Complaint: Not enough volume
Response: I've had no problem with volume of hot water with this model and the shower or dishwasher or any other appliance. I have it turned up all the way for the dishwasher, so this is the most restrictive setting. At any lower setting, or elsewhere in the US where the ground water isn't as cold as it is here, will have more water. They make a bigger model if you need to run two showers at once. That is not an issue for me.

Over all I'm very happy with this unit. The quality is excellent. The kit was complete. I've had no trouble with it. Installation is easy if you have basic plumbing skills. The hardest part - by far - of the installation is the venting. The exhaust gas is high temp, so you have to watch how close you get to combustible materials. This is a very good choice for anyone with an electric water heater, or someone who has a gas water heater that needs to be replaced.

Stiebel Eltron DHC 8-2 Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

Stiebel Eltron DHC 8-2 Electric Tankless Water HeaterThis unit is worthless.I bought a more powerful unit than was remotely necessary to feed a single sink. The unit felt cheap at first, but I reserved judgement. Now I have used it for a month, my conclusion is that this water heater can't even heat water for a single sink. The relays constantly switch off and on, thus even when water becomes slightly warm, it goes back to cold. This is possibly due to fluctuations in water pressure.

In a laboratory setting this heater may have supplied tepid water, but in the real world it is useless.

Palmgren 92101 HipShot 12-volt Ni-Cad Tankless Cordless Shoulder Strap Compressor Review

Palmgren 92101 HipShot 12-volt Ni-Cad Tankless Cordless Shoulder Strap CompressorWe initially purchased one of the 92101 compressors for our service technician to use when doing punch list items for our residential contracting company. The ability to walk into an occupied residence, without the cumbersome larger compressor/ hose/ cords etc. , was the main reason we wanted to try this unit out. The added benefit turned out to be how quiet the unit is when operating. Although it is not a rapid fire machine, it served its purpose well for random pieces of trim or a cabinet detail we needed to apply. We have since purchased three more of the units for our project managers to carry with them in case of a last minute punch list type item or small trim detail that doesn't require a lot of nailing to install. For our applications, the product has performed very well.

Bosch AQ4 Water Heater Vent Kit Review

Bosch AQ4 Water Heater Vent KitI have to say, why would there be so many "USED" kits available? I went to a service call where the plumber actually caused a fire by installing one of these improperly. It's not that difficult. When you are considering installing one of these, first consider the total cost of the 125 series heater and the vent cost and you are up around the cost of many other brands which are already power vented and have far more advanced features. The 125 series Bosch water heaters are little work horses but must be maintained. The fan housings in the AQ must be cleaned s they can and do load up with dust, dirt and provide habitat for nesting insects. The average homeowner is going to have a hard time installing this, even plumbers who have installed Bosch water heaters will shy away from these kits in favor of internal power vent models. This is like putting rubber tires on a covered wagon. Due diligence is worth every minute spent before mis-spending you $$$

Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4-GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water Heater Review

Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4-GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water HeaterAfter purchasing an Aquastar 125LP unit, which was defective from the factory, we were "upgraded" to this unit at a discount rate because apparently Bosch discontinued the production of the Aquastar 125LP unit. After 2 months of use, the digital control panel went blank...so we called Bosch. They will not deal with homeowner's...only the people who installed the unit...this equals a service call for the gas company and the plumbing company just to tell Bosch the unit was installed correct. I am sure the unit was installed correct, because it worked great for two months. I asked them to send a Bosch representative so they could inspect the unit for themselves...they do not have service representatives in the field. At this point, we are cutting our losses and purchasing a water heater that is not made by Bosch.

WH2100 nuvoH2O Whole-House Salt-Free Water Softener System Review

WH2100 nuvoH2O Whole-House Salt-Free Water Softener SystemWe're in the market for a water softening system and the nuvoH2O sounds great from some of the reviews here. The problem I'm having is that most of the very positive reviews were written with a few days of each other and mostly come from people in Utah who have just this one product review on Amazon. It gives me pause to wonder if the 'reviews' are really being written by people who would profit from the sale of the nuvoH20.

I'd like to see some reviews from across the country from Amazon buyers with many product reviews listed.

I'll wait until I know more 'real' info about the product before I buy.

NORITZ Outdoor 7.5 GPM Tankless Water Heater NR98-ODNG Review

NORITZ Outdoor 7.5 GPM Tankless Water Heater NR98-ODNGMy old (traditional tank) water heater broke. Replacing it with the same style tank based system was not automatic for me as I saw this as a chance to regain some coveted garage space. The local home depot had Rheem tankless water heaters but not quite the model I wanted so I started searching online and ended up here. Noritz is the cadillac of the tankless water heater systems - you cannot go wrong with them, certainly for this price and you save tax on top of that.

The system was installed by our plumber in 1 day. Whereas I had an inside tank based water heater before, I now have an outside tankless water heater and just a few pipes in the garage. The unit installed easily (according to the plumber) and operated instantly and without flaws. I have had it for 2 weeks and have received excellent hot water service from it. We have a 3 people living in the house and never have to struggle with luke warm water, even if the washing machine and/or dish washer is doing its business at the same time someone takes a shower. This unit is small but boy does it deliver!

In case you are considering going tankless, these might be your conserns:
1. Will I have hot water or luke warm? This is largely a question of how much hot water do you need at a given time. This unit raises 7.5Gallons/minut 45F. The shower is about 2G/m, a faucet perhaps 1G/m, the dish washer and laundry perhaps each another 2G/m. If incoming water is at 60F, I end up with 100F or so for the shower, which is more than enough. The dish washer has its own heater... 7.5G/m is more than enough.
2. Will I have hot water ... instantly?Ah, no, you won't but that is not a problem of your water heater. If you have not used hot water for a while, all water in the pipes turns cold. Once you turn on the hot water tap, all that cold water needs to come out first before you feel hot. Tank or tankless based systems would perform identically in this respect.
3. My current tank based system is in the garage, should I not just go with an inside unit? Sure you can but these systems require a stainless steel exhaust (no, you cannot use your existing ventilation). The stainless steel exhausts are ridiculously expensive and runs in the hundreds of dollars quickly. If you have the chance to put the unit outside, do it.Now, if you live in an area where "things" may get pretty cold outside and you have to run considerable lengths of copper - perhaps inside is better for you.
4. Can I compare different brands by just looking at thair G/m rating? No, you need to determine the G/m rating AND how many degrees it raises the water temperature at that rating. Not all brands specify this identically!
5. If I just need a trickle of hot water, will the unit actually kick in and heat the slow flow? Yes, it will. Some other brands may not but this Noritz does turn on as soon as you use hot water, however little.

Stiebel Eltron Tempra 12 Plus Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

Stiebel Eltron Tempra 12 Plus Electric Tankless Water HeaterWe've experienced a flawless install and operation from our Stiebel Eltron. Unlimited hot water and lower electric bills are the two big positives for this appliance, but I also like that it's about the size of a picture frame hanging on the wall and opened up a lot of space in our utility room when we replaced our old tank water heater.

Only thing to keep in mind is that this is not a drop in replacement for an existing tank water heater. We had to have an electrician come out and wire up a 60 Amp 6 gauge wire from the breaker box to the water heater for a nominal fee (about $200), other than that the plumbing and mounting was super easy, both of which I did myself in about an hour's time (thanks to Gatorbite plumbing fixtures).

We are really enjoying the Stiebel Eltron and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an electric tankless water heater.

Bosch 1600P NG AquaStar 4.3 GPM Indoor Tankless Natural Gas Water Heater Review

Bosch 1600P NG AquaStar 4.3 GPM Indoor Tankless Natural Gas Water HeaterThis product worked fine for about 10 weeks. It then started shuting down while in the middle of the shower.Turning off the water and then turning the water back on, the unit would then start delivering hot water.I contacted tech support numerous times and they say nothing is wrong with the unit. They want me to send pictures of the installation, have a gas tech come out ($80.00 my expense)and check the gas pressure on thier side of the gas regulator. The last tech I talked to said to turn the gas shut off valve almost off and see if that helped. It does help but did not fix the problem.Think about it, use your gas shout off valve to make it work right. He said that my ground water temp was probaly too warm (71 degrees). They will not tell me in writing what they require of me to get the unit replaced or what they deem wrong enough to replace the unit.Apparently working fine for 10 weeks and then sending cold water during your shower daily is not enough.
